Hiring: Fiberglass Equipment Inspector
Maverick Applied Science Inc., a leading non-metallic pipe and vessel engineering and inspection firm, is
seeking to hire an experienced FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) inspector. Candidates may reside
anywhere in the USA and will travel to jobsites to perform these inspections. Travel is required, so
proximity to a major airport is a plus.
The job may entail inspecting non-metallic equipment at a fabricator’s site during its initial production to
ensure it conforms to project specifications. The inspector may also visit jobsites to inspect equipment
that has been placed into service, to determine the remaining life expectancy of the equipment.
Experience:
- The most qualified candidate will possess at least 5 years of experience as a fiberglass (FRP) laminate
inspector. Past experience as a certified FRP secondary bonder, past experience as a QC inspector or
previous management experience over a fiberglass fabrication facility would also be acceptable. - The ability to read blueprints, and understand specifications and Codes is a key job skill for this
inspector. - Experience with the construction of dual laminate piping and equipment is beneficial.
- Experience in interpreting manufacturing codes, standards and industry best practices relating to the
manufacturing and installation of FRP equipment; such as ASME Section X, ASME RTP-1, ASME B31.1,
and other relevant standards. - For reporting purposes, a qualified inspector will have good computer skills and will understand the
operation of programs such as MS Word and MS Excel. The inspector will need a laptop computer to
write reports and to connect to the office periodically. - The ability to obtain a TWIC card (for site entry purposes) and a passport for work in Canada (and other
locations) is required. - The candidate should be familiar with NB-263 the “Rules for National Board InService and New
Construction Commissioned Inspectors” produced by the National Board along with the ASME QAI-1
“Qualifications for Authorized Inspectors”. The candidate should be properly trained in the use of all
inspection instrumentation such as tape measures, calipers, pressure and vacuum gauges, Barcol
Impresser, environmental reading instruments, and an infrared thermometer along with common word
processing tools such as MS Word and MS Excel. The candidate should also have an understanding of
the common NDT methods used in the FRP industry such as Acoustic Emission testing, Ultrasonic
thickness measurement devices and other Phased Array type measurement devices - Completion of construction site safety courses (such as an OSHA 10 hour or OSHA 30 hour site safety
course) is a plus. - The ability to perform inspections in both a fiberglass equipment fabrication shop environment, and a
customer’s job site environment is required. - The ability to work independently is important.
Education:
- A college degree is not required but is beneficial. A 4-year college degree from an accredited university
in any engineering field may be substituted for prior laminate inspection experience. - Certification by ASNT, NACE, AWS or another accredited source for any inspection method is preferred.
Benefits:
- Paid holidays
- PTO and Vacation days
- Simple IRA with company match
- Health insurance
