Here’s another helpful video for you from Maverick Applied Science, Inc.’s President, Jeff Eisenman – “Why Outage Inspections are Crucial – Pay a little Now or Pay a Lot More Later.” In this video Jeff offers a lot of best practices so take a minute to watch.
Jeff starts by relating the story of his brother’s 1970 Mustang. He explains why:
“I told you this story, because your plants are like a car. They can be dependable, but you need to take care of them. They can take some abuse, but they need a regular maintenance check. Like your plant, his car didn’t have one of those maintenance lights to advise you that it’s time to change the oil. You need a regular maintenance schedule and to check the mileage. Your FRP tanks and piping are just like that.
Most plants have maintenance outages, every 12 to 24 months. It’s a time to take a look at all the equipment. A lot of times the FRP gets overlooked. I’ve been told by some plant operators that “our plant has a great maintenance assessment program for our steel tanks and piping, but not for our FRP.” Maybe, they don’t have an in-house SME to do this. That means you need to look outside the plant for help.
Most FRP is painted, so it usually looks good on the outside. But, that doesn’t tell the story. I’ve seen some storage tanks that have never been inspected since they were installed 20 or 30 years ago ….THAT’S SCARY–and a disaster in the making!”
Watch the video for the rest of the story and then give us a call to discuss it!
